上世纪七十年代参加全国铁矿大会战,参与了安徽省庐江大包庄富铁矿的勘探全过程,参加编写的成果报告获地矿部地质勘探一等奖;在地质力学理论指导下,开展长江中下游和中央造山带构造地质、区域地质和深部地质研究,承担了安徽大包庄铁矿、沙溪铜矿、安庆铜矿、贵池通山铜矿等矿田、浙江金华银坑钼矿、海南岛石碌铁矿、黑龙江多宝山铜矿等矿区构造控矿和构造地球化学研究任务。八十年初,应用国际推覆构造、构造递进变形的概念,参与编制安徽省构造地质图,对关键地质部位进行野外检查和验证,获得地矿部科技进步三等奖;八十年代-九十年代,承担大别山碰撞造山带与超高压变质岩石折返机制研究和国际学术竞争,主持大别山造山带大地电磁测深剖面、宽角反射与折射地震剖面、近垂直深反射地震剖面探测与综合研究。自2000年以来,根据国家对能源的巨大需求,先后主持中石化“中央造山带前陆深部构造与油气远景”、“大巴山前陆构造演化与油气远景研究”及中石油“下扬子侏罗纪含油性评价”等项目,在前陆变形和深部构造、构造驱动油气、油气二次成藏和油气远景预测研究方面取得重要进展。负责开展中国东亚洲东部大地构造演化、燕山运动多向陆内造山机制、亚洲中部及邻区地质图系、亚洲三维地质结构与矿产资源等重要研究项目。

从2008年起主持国家科技专项“深部探测技术与实验”(首席科学家,2008-2013),2003-2005主持“国外地质科技发展动向”战略研究,2009-2010作为第一执行组长负责“国土资源可持续发展的地质工作发展战略研究”研究。主持中美(1994-1997)、中德(1998-2000)、中俄哈蒙韩五国1/250万中亚地质图系(2002-2007)、五国中-东-北亚洲三维地质与成矿(2008-2010);负责国家科学专项“深部探测技术与实验研究”(SinoProbe,2008-2013);主持国际合作项目(地质调查)“西太平洋边缘三维地质结构与资源响应”(五国合作项目,2011-2013);现主持“秦岭-大别山地壳三维填图”项目(地质调查,2012-2016);五国东亚深部过程与资源环境效应(2011-2015)等国际合作项目等。先后发表180余篇论文,其中SCI论文40多篇,专著4部。
